Artist Statement
Dai Yuxiang was born in Jingdezhen. He graduated in 1989 with his MFA from the Industrial Ceramic Department of China Academy of Arts. He is currently a professor, postgraduate advisor and the head of the ceramics department at China Academy of Arts in Hangzhou.
“In light of China’s rapid development, I must possess a broad perspective and vision of culture so that I can integrate different cultural factors into my work. From this cultural integration to exploring the language of ceramic itself, I attempt to expand expression and the boundaries of the ceramic material. To enrich ceramic language and form, we must focus on the ‘humanity’ and re-consider the tradition and the currency. Culture is not based on the form, but on the inner value.”
